As lovers of adventures and the outdoors, we have taken great care to design Revelshine which is the perfect companion to your trips. Whether you are on a day hike or a longer camping experience, we want to preserve the trail for the next people to come.
With well over 100 million visitors on more than 10 billion outings in the U.S. each year, our love for the outdoors can take a toll. Impacted areas suffer from litter, invasive species, habituated wildlife, trail erosion, polluted water sources and more. While most of us don’t intend to harm our natural surroundings, we may lack the knowledge to preserve it, or we’re simply overlooking a few important behaviors.
Thus, the saying Pack It In & Pack It Out has been a big motto for National and State parks and beaches. This common saying is a simple yet effective way to get outdoor visitors to take their trash home with them. There is no reason why people cannot carry out the extra food and packaging materials that they carried in with them in the first place. Trash and litter are human impacts that can greatly detract from the naturalness of an area. Another principle to follow is plan ahead and prepare. Reduce the volume of trash you have to pack out. Save weight by repackaging solid foods into plastic bags and liquids into reusable containers. The great news about Revelshine is that with a simple rinse out – you can now carry water or any other liquid in your bottle for the hike back out.
An organization that we love and get our tips from is Leave No Trace whose mission is to preserve our favorite natural places for everyone. We love their easy 7 Principles on How to Leave No Trace:
- Plan ahead and prepare.
- Travel and camp on durable surfaces.
- Dispose of waste properly.
- Leave what you find.
- Minimize campfire impacts (be careful with fire).
- Respect wildlife.
- Be considerate of other visitors.
With these in practice, we can all enjoy the outdoors for hopefully many more lifetimes.
